The California Feed-in Tariff Act of 2008April 5, 2008 On March 28, 2008 Assembly Member Felipe Fuentes substantially amended AB 1807: The California Feed-in Tariff Act of 2008. Most importantly, the amendments greatly strengthened the bill by advising the California Public Utility Commission to use the cost of generation plus a reasonable profit in calculating the tariffs for each renewable energy technology. The amendments make AB 1807 the only true feed-in tariff bill in the current legislative session. While there are two other bills, one in the Assembly and one in the Senate, these are merely modifications of the state's net-metering policy. AB 1807 is the strongest bill and the only true feed-in tariff bill at this time. If passed AB 1807 would have far reaching repercussions by moving California toward a system of Advanced Renewable Tariffs. As an example of the import that AB 1807 could have on boosting California renewable energy development, both PG&E and SCE issued statements within days opposing the bill. There's no greater endorsement of proposed renewable energy policy than the knee-jerk opposition of the state's two largest electric utilities.
