Cleveland Science Center Solar PorticoSeptember 5, 2007 Cleveland's Great Lakes Science Center dedicated 156-panel solar array on July 11, 2007. The 300-foot cantilevered portico produces about 36 kW. The project was installed in a manner of weeks just prior to the 2007 American Solar Energy Society conference held nearby in the Cleveland Convention Center. The structure provides shade and a dramatic accent to the modern science museum on Cleveland's harbor front. The architectural solar array joins a 225 kW wind turbine installed a year earlier. As Cleveland has followed Toronto's example of installing an urban wind turbine on its harbor front, so too Toronto could follow Cleveland's example and erect a solar portico at the ExPace's Direct Energy Centre.
