Public Participation in Decision on DC Fast Charging Roll-Out of CARB-VW Settlement Critical

Given the order of magnitude difference between the cost of hydrogen-fueling stations and DC Fast Charging stations, how much will be allocated to DC Fast Charging under the CARB-VW settlement is unknown.

For this reason, EV advocates urge CARB to immediately convene an advisory group for maximizing public input into how the settlement money will be spent in the public interest. Guiding this group’s discussions should be an emphasis on maximizing near term air pollution reduction and climate change mitigation.

CARB’s decisions will profoundly influence the success of California’s EV goals. The state could see as many as 4.5 million vehicles by 2030, assuming of course, that we build the charging infrastructure to support them.
