Postage Stamp of Bonus Windmills at MiddelgrundenOne of a series of commemorative windmill stamps issued in Denmark in 2007. Middelgrunden's offshore wind turbines are visible from the Folketing, Denmark's parliament, and visible from major tourist sites in Copenhagen.
The twenty 2 MW Bonus turbines are installed in a gentle arc on the Middelgrunden sand bank, litterally, the middle sand bank in the straits between Copenhagen and Sweden. Middelgrunden is an unusual offshore project in that it was developed by a cooperative. The cooperative owns one-half the turbines and Copenhagen's municipal utility owns the other half. There are approximately 8,000 investors in the cooperative's portion of the project. For more on Middelgrunden, visit Middelgrunden.dk. More on the history of Danish wind turbine development can be found in Wind Energy Comes of Age. -End- |
